There's an old saying that suggests that the voice is the best instrument a musician can have, and in the case of Viva Voce, this is most certainly true. They are a group that perform all over the world, last year playing around 150 concerts globally, and have been recognised for their talents by being given the Bavarian Culture Award. On their Facebook page, they have claimed to have tried everything without instruments that is musically possible – the definition of experimental if you will.
You most likely to catch Viva Voce touring round their home country of Germany, where they always put on a good show. From silly antics on stage like river dancing to the in-between-song-banter, these guys know how to put on an entertaining performance. What also impresses me about Viva Voce during their live shows is the amount of different genres they cover throughout a set. You can hear the quintet performing opera, with different tones of voice in the background accompanying the singer, to hip hop where the backing vocalists perform beatbox and act out synths.
Above all, the amount of effort they put into their gigs to make them memorable for the audience is probably the main reason why they're such a hit worldwide. Costume changes to reflect genre and choreographed dance moves for each song make them a joy to watch – not to mention they're awesome singers!
