I missed out on seeing James Brown perform live so Fred Wesley & The New J.B.'s was the closest I was ever going to get. I've also never seen as funky a trombonist as Fred Wesley. He clearly enjoyed himself and gave the tight band plenty of opportunity to showcase their skills. For me the bass played was the star turn. Pass the Peas was the top hit and we all danced the night away. Great that Pee Wee Ellis played on a few numbers too. Last saw him with Ginger Baker at Love Supreme
A word too about the support band - the Soul Immigrants. What a great start they gave to the evening. Funky and soulful featuring a solid horn section with Dee Byrne on alto
Great venue Under the Bridge
