Let me just preface this review by letting you know that a lot of times, when seeing a band for the first time, I don't even listen to their music ahead of time – when I read a description that seems interesting, I prefer to be surprised. When I saw that a gypsy-Balkan-reggae-punk-tango-brass band was playing at Underground Arts in Philly, I was intrigued to say the least, but I never expected what actually occurred. This band – in short – is breathtaking. Aside from the fact that these guys are amazing musicians, they are also amazing performers. They know how to engage, surprise, and charm an audience. They danced, they chanted, they shimmied through the audience. Their description rang true – watching Mucca Pazza switch genres of music from song to song was truly impressive to watch. So impressive, I should add, that two days later I drove 2 hours to Brooklyn to see them again.
I think, if the violinist just got to know me a little bit better, he might consider marrying me.
