I think everyone that attended the O2 ABC in Glasgow on that cold night in November, left satisfied they had been in the presence of some fantastic musicians.
It started unusually with a stage introduction by Billy Sloan, setting the scene and what happened after that was a magical tour through some of Bowies greatest hits, over 20 songs played.
If I was unsure about Gaby Moreno prior to this, she won me over I thought she was fantastic and did a lot of the songs more than justice, fronting the band.
Gillian Glover provided support prior to the set then fitted in comfortably on backing vocals throughout too, Oddly with Gavin Mitchell from Still Game.
We also got a cameo appearance from Steve Harley, singing a couple of his song as well as duetting on Absolute Beginners, which was a nice bit of positioning saying as a musician present when Bowie wrote and recorded it was on guitar here too, Kevin Armstrong, Mike Garson reinforcing the guitarist's credibility, reminding us he has performed with him at Live Aid and co wrote Outside among his points of note on his cv.
The band were all excellent, I was particulary impressed with the rythymn section and the young scottish bass player from Iggy Pops band doing a fine job and appeared to have his own fan club in the audience, crys of "we love you Ben" amusing the much travelled Ben Ellis
The venue was perfect for it and boasts one of the largest disco balls you will find anywhere, the sound was good, the staff were friendly and helpful.
I would recommend both the artist and the venue.
