You know you’ve been doing something right when you get to a point in your career where you find yourself zeroing in on no fewer than sixty years in the business; that’s the case for Johnny Rivers, the New Yorker who’s been peddling straight-up, no-nonsense American rock and roll to a devoted fanbase for almost that long, now. During that time, he’s released no fewer than twenty-nine studio albums and had three number one singles in his native U.S., but the real jewel in the crown of his career - and perhaps the key to his success, too - are is live shows, which continue to this day. Currently, he’s belying his seventy-one years with career-spanning sets that are marathon in length and breakneck in pace; his current live band are perhaps the best he’s played with to date, too, the instrumentation kept punchy and tight. He rarely tours outside of the U.S. these days, but he seems to be pretty much constantly on the road within his homeland - he’s fast approaching living legend status.
