Born to Albanian parents, Bebe Rexha spent much of her childhood being passionate about music, and participated in a number of musicals throughout high school including “Hello, Dolly!”, “Jesus Christ Superstar”, and “Fiddler on the Roof”. Inspired by the likes of Tori Amos, John Legend, and The Temptations, Rexha won the Best Teen Songwriter award at The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences' Grammy Day event, which led to the young songwriter meeting a host of successful producers.
In 2010, Rexha begun writing and recording songs in producer Sam Hollander’s studio, before being approached by Fall Out Boy’s bassist Pete Wentz. With the idea of forming an electro, alternative group with Jamaican influences the duo Black Cards was born, and Rexha singed with Wentz’ Decaydance label in partnership with Island Def Jam. The single “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Fame” was released in mid-2011, however following a host of songs being leaked on to Youtube, the duo’s debut was postponed, and Rexha ultimately left the group in January 2012.
Following a three-month period of courting labels, the singer-songwriter signed with Warner Bros. Records in 2013. By this point Rexha had penned popular songs including Selena Gomez’s “Like a Champion”, Nikki Williams’ “Glowing”, and Eminem’s Billboard Hot 100 No. One hit “The Monster”. The singer’s solo debut single “Comeback Kids” was released to her SoundCloud later in 2013, after which she collaborated with EDM group Cash Cash on their single “Take Me Home”.
In anticipation of her debut album, which features esteemed producers including David Guetta, Fraser T Smith, and Freuqency, Rexha released her official debut single “I Can’t Stop Drinking About You” in March 2014. In December the single “I’m Gonna Show You Crazy” followed, finding success in Finland, Norway, and Sweden, before releasing the subsequent single “Gone”.
Bleta Rexha better known by her stage name Bebe Rexha may have only begun her singer/songwriter career in 2010 yet she can already name David Guetta, Pete Wentz, Eminem and Cash Cash as past clients or collaborators. The Albanian born performer casts a striking figure onstage. Now as she focuses on her solo material and releases, she has begun to tour at a more devoted pace to reach her fanbase on both sides of the Atlantic.
Intermingling her danceable solo material with famous collaborative tracks including 'Hey Mama' and 'Take Me Home'. Although a lot of the material is pretty fast paced she still has chance to allow her vocal to shine on a slower cover of 'The Monster' by Eminem which she co-wrote. This lady clearly has untapped talent in a variety of fields yet whilst she has spent so much time in the studio many have not realised she is an energetic and impressive live performer. Although she does not have countless experience on the stage, she still handles it well and as the crowds will surely grow in size it would appear that Bebe Rexha will be able to handle this with a professional ease.
