As the blue wash came over the stage, and 54-40 walked out to meet the crowd, everyone was cheering in anticipation of their set before their launched right into Baby Ran. Of course starting with one of your most famous tracks is always going to be a hit, but I don’t think anyone could have anticipated how enthusiastic the audience were going to be. There wasn’t a single person in the crowd standing still, and everyone seemed to know the song so was singing along. Around half way through the track, Neil Osborne led the band into a rocky jam, and each member took a turn improvising a solo for the crowd. It was awesome to hear sections of music by the band that don’t appear on the recordings, and it’s a massive demonstration of their skills.
They played a great selection of tracks, and although their line up has changed some what over the years, it didn’t stop them playing any of their older tracks, and they absolutely nailed every one, you’d never know that not all of the band members hadn’t been there since the start. When they played Since When, they took a couple of minutes making sure that everyone knew the words to the chorus, which of course we did, and then got us to sing along, whist the jammed over the top with their instruments. It was awesome to be included in the show like that, and I’d absolutely love to see them perform live again.
One week before seeing 54-40 at the Bear Mountain Westin Resort, we attended the 50th Anniversary Finale concert at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, which featured Daniel Lapp and friends closing out the second half of the celebration. We thoroughly enjoyed his raport with the audience and the gentle caring manner in which he interacted with his students, so were very pleased to find Daniel and his trio as opening act for 54-40 this past weekend.
From the beautiful sunny weather to the amazing venue to our cool tablemates to the incredible music of 54-40...we had it all. What an evening for this outdoor event!
Even though 54-40 played from a white tent set up just below the Westin's patio, the sound was quite clear from just about anywhere we chose to sit or stand. The music was, of course, absolutely over the top. Some tunes we weren't that familiar with, but when it came to 'One Gun,' 'Ocean Pearl' and 'I Go Blind' the crowd went wild dancing and singing along. We were pleased that 54-40 invited Daniel Lapp to join in during their last couple of songs, seamlessly weaving his fiddle magic with the band's extraordinary musical talents.
All in all, we had a super evening and definitely recommend seeing and hearing 54-40 in live performance whenever the opportunity arises.
Rockin Friday night in Stratford! Small venue was warm and intimate hall for a couple hundred lucky fans. Sound was dead near perfect, well mixed and tonally clear. Band came our Rocking and put on a solid stream of hits, mkixing things up with some acoustic songs, guitars sounded great, Neil,s voice still sounding really good. Brad,s bass kept the songs grovin along. Played from 9:00-11:00 and did 4 more for an encore. Great show and muscian-ship from the whole band, I would see them again! So lucky to see up close in an old masonic hall, great venue. Thanks so much guys for playing smaller towns! Luv you, luv you, luv you A-all!
Can I say anything short of amazing.. incredible?
The band put on a 16 song set plus a fantastic 2 song encore!! Having been up front for the whole gig added a euphoric element to the experience!
Not to mention meeting and talking with Brad & Matt post show! Brad is a caring and genuine person!!!!
I am so honoured and privileged to have had an impromptu one on one talk with both of them!
Loved the intimacy of the venue!
Support LIVE music! ALWAYS
Packed home @ the Horseshoe Tavern and the band did not disappoint. Lots of great tunes and light show. Loved the small venue but hated the number of people who felt the need to stand on chairs blocking the view of people behind them. Given I have seen them in larger venues, I would prefer that versus the smaller venue and some inconsiderate fans. Overall great show and love seeing these guys live!
I love 55440 Ive seen them many times over. I really like the new album with Neil mixing it up with his daughter Heather. Beautiful voice. When I first saw them was at a rib-fest in Sarnia Ontario, they blew me away, I always go to where they are playing never had a bad time yet.
Great Venue in Ladner. Terrific Performance!
54.40's reworked songs were wonderful and truly complemented their more familiar versions.
The songs they performed from the new album really connected with the audience.
Give these Guys a JUNO!
I have seen 5440 numerous times and every time they are great. I cant wait to see them play in my area again. when they played at some ones house party they were still very professional and the crowd really enjoyed them.
