Seeing musicians play live is always incredible, and when they play their own instruments, it’s even more astounding experiencing the talent that one individual can be in command of. Seeing Gerald Albright’s live show blew me away from start to finish, as he journeyed through his tracks on saxophone, bass, keys, and vocals in a seemingly effortless manner, constantly confident in his performance, and putting in every effort to entertain his audience.
As the stage lights came up, Albright made his way centre stage with his saxophone, and opened the show with an awesome piece that I’d not hears before, supported by his band, playing incredible jazz and blues tunes. He then introduced himself and cracked some jokes before switching to piano, and launching into Giving Myself To You. He absolutely smashed it, and had everyone singing and cheering along for the whole song.
He was great at interacting with the audience, and got everyone up on their feet to sing and dance along. Although the show was only 90 minutes long, it was worth every penny. The energy that Albright maintained throughout the show, giving every single track his absolute all was incredible, and he really blew everyone away. He’s one of those artists that you can enjoy on recordings, but the live versions are a hundred times better and more exciting.
