Canada’s best indie rock artist Sam Roberts is a multi-talented instrumentalist and vocalist. Being able to play the guitar, bass and violin, he fronts the band under his name, and together that have put out their fair share of albums. Backed by his band consisting of Dave Nugent, Eric Fares, James Hall, Josh Trager and Chet Doxas, they play one hell of a show.
There is no sugar coating with Sam Roberts, who jumps straight into rocking out his guitar as soon as he takes the stage. He has a super calm demeanor, but also maintains a high amount of energy for the entire hour-long set. When watching him play his guitar, you can’t help but think, “man that guy is so cool.” His vocals are very real, in the “you know he doesn’t edit any of his vocals when he is recording his albums,” which is highly respectable as an artist. I really love that he also includes some live horns, because I mean a live saxophone in alternative rock bands always takes them up a notch when they have a live sax player. It makes the show a little more fun and gives a little more depth to the music that they make.
If you have not had the pleasure of seeing this band live, you should go. The radio does not do them justice. Great rocking show. Clear vocals and impressive instrumental skills. They really have not been given the koodos they deserve. I have seen them at two outdoor shows, early, and later in their career and again just this weekend at the KRock centre in Kingston. Again, if you're hesitating, you should go!
