Biografía
Born Lenka Kripac to a Czech father and an Australian mother, Lenka was performing in one way, shape or form from a very early age due to her encouraging and artistic family. After her family moved from Bega to Sydney when Kripac was seven, she started classes in acting and musicianship before securing her first major TV role at the age of 16. While she enjoyed continued success as an actress music was always something she dabbled in, providing vocals on two tracks of Paul Mac's 2005 album “Panic Room”and going so far as to join the band Decoder Ring, playing on two of their albums. However in 2008, Kripac began her solo music career, releasing her debut single “The Show” in September of the same year.
Her debut single was a success all over the world, charting strongly in Belgium, Japan and the U.K. However, she would remain a cult concern until 2012, where the third single from her second album, 2011's “Two”, was featured in a Windows 8 commercial. The single was another huge success all over the world and ever since then Lenka has remained one of the most acclaimed songwriters to come from Australia in a very long time. For showing that actors turned musicians can sometimes be amazing discoveries in their own right, she comes highly recommended.

Australian singer-songwriter Lenka performed her own Livestream Sessions concert to promote the release of her "Shadows" album. Upon watching the beginning of the concert, I felt connected to the band due to Lenka's warm welcome. She and her acoustic guitar player, Trey cheerfully greeted and acknowledged the audience. She explained what the audience could expect from their concert, so nothing was left untouched.Lenka was wearing a black sleeveless top with a multicolored floral pattern printed on it.
Her hair was a dark auburn and had the sides pinned back. Her only visible accessories were gold and white heart dangling earrings. Her makeup had a neutral smokiness with a semi-dark pink lip and a little foundation, pale pink-brown eyeshadow, and black eyeliner. Trey was wearing a button-down blue short-sleeve shirt. The venue feels intimate and similar to many other unplugged performances. There does not appear to be an audience in front of her. They are sitting on two stools on a heavily patterned rug.
To Lenka's left is a bright signs with their name and "LIVE" in red lights with shrub decals. There is no background as the slightly purple lighting is only focused on her and Trey, leaving what is behind them mostly in darkness. A few different types of drums can be seen behind Trey. Lenka starts singing her first song and clapping along. After each song, she gives a bit of background about items like how she started, her previous bands, her inspirations for the songs and whole album, and the like. She also answers audience-submitted questions. She then performs "Trouble is A Friend" while playing the keyboard directly in front of her. She also plays songs like "Heart to the Party" and "After the Winter" from her new album with just Trey strumming or tapping on his guitar.
They perform other songs from the album, and then finish their set by waving to the audience.I feel like she is really connecting with me on a personal level due to how she speaks and acknowledges everyone. Her playful insights before and after each song really make her seem fun and personable, which is why I would enjoy watching her perform live. She is not about flash or over-the-top performances but showmanship and kindness towards the audience while putting on a heartfelt concert.
I had been a bit of a fan of Lenka long before I heard her live, particularly because of (ok, solely because of) her hits ‘The Show’ and ‘Everything at Once’. With two extremely catchy, alternative pop tunes that had affected me enough to actually bother to look up the artist behind such great tunes, I was excited to see what else Lenka had up her belt. I was not disappointed. These two tracks obviously featured on her set list, and were both met with rapturous applause. ‘Everything at Once’ actually ended the show in great spirit whilst ‘The Show’ opened the show, obviously, and cleverly set up the rest of the show for the audience. However, the songs in the middle were just as great as the opener and closer. ‘Trouble is a Friend’, ‘Blue Skies’ and ‘Just Enjoy the Show’ were all great tracks and Lenka sounded great live. She accompanied a few tracks on the piano and had a great bunch of backing musicians that really added to the performance. It was clear that she was a talented musician, songwriter and singer. However, what I was not expecting was how lovely a person she seemed to be. Lenka really was a true delight on stage.
10 out of 10 seems completely inadequate to rate this amazingly wonderful & touching evening spent in the company of one of the world's most underrated artists!
Lena deserves HUGE SUCCESS ... although then the opportunity to experience her talent and charisma in such an intimate venue would probably not be possible.
Frankly, I have been to 100's of concerts ... stadium sized to even smaller than St Pancras Old Church ... and if I could re-live just one more concert in my life, I would not hesitate in choosing this one!
As I mentioned to her after the concert, it was a crime that it wasn't recorded ... I would have paid a significant sum to get a copy in this venue which complimented her intimate, quirky & honest musicianship.
Just this one date in Europe ... not acceptable!!
Beautiful intimate venue. Arrived early and managed to get the front row seats with my daughter who was awe struck. The sound was magnificent for both artists. Lenka was without her full band (would love to see that in full force) but had an accompanying keyboard/guitar player. Her voice was as perfect as the studio, and just to enhance it she sang one song accapella to perfection. I have no idea how long she was on for as I didn't even think of the time. Her voice captivated both my daughter and I, we were transfixed. I'm so glad we got to see her at this level, we waited afterwards, met her and took pictures, she was very polite, modest and welcoming. Maybe one day the whole world will wake up to her peaceful loving music and lyrics and her following will grow as it should.
