Papangu

10/10 Absolutely mind blowing live band.

We saw Papangu perform at Neue Zukunft in Berlin, sharing the bill with Seven That Spells which were the reason we bought tickets, but Papangu's set was super duper tight and a marvel to witness. Given the level of musicianship on stage right in the first song I expected tons of shredding and over the top jams throughout the show, but instead we were treated to a set ranging from sophisticated, jazzy folk songs to groovy fusion metal, with crazed solos, improvisation, and frenzied jamming, and everything was catchy or singable. The band is definitely experienced as they both knew how to include the audience in the performance by having the keyboardist teach us how to sing along in Portuguese and also were proficient at maneuvering through technical issues. At one point the bass failed, so the bassist borrowed one of the guitars and improvised an avant-garde solo that seamlessly lead to the next song without breaking a sweat.

They played for an hour and apologised that they couldn't play a 2-hour set despite the endless requests for a Zugabe. We are definitely coming to their shows again and everyone should try to see them live!!
