Every now and then you come across a band who have a total non-sequitur for a name, and indeed there’s nothing about the label by which Bishop Allen have chosen to go by that really reveals anything about the band to the listener before they press play; you certainly wouldn’t have much in the way of information to tell you that they hail from Brooklyn, New York, have been going for over a decade and are primarily comprised, at their core at least, of Justin Rice on vocals and keyboards and Christian Rudder on strings, for instance. That is indeed the case, though, and over the course of those ten years together, the band have managed to turn out four full-length albums, including their latest - Lights Out - which was released back in March - and can also lay claim to having embarked upon a genuinely ambitious project back in 2006, when they released new fewer than twelve different EPs - one for each month of the year. They have a small but committed fanbase here in the UK, and will doubtless be in the process of lining up dates in support of Lights Out once they’re done promoting it on the other side of the pond.
