Hailing from Sheffield, Toddla T is a DJ who has great versatility, capable of remixing and producing songs in a variety of genres such as grime, hip hop, dance and electronic. Most notable for his single 'Take It Back', which hit the UK Top 60 in 2011, and having a slot on Radio 1, he's slowly and surely becoming a big name in the UK music scene. Admittedly, as a grime and rap fan, I'm mainly interested in his ability to mix fast tempo instrumentals flawlessly and to construct a drop that is enough to make the whole room go mental, and there was certainly evidence of this at his Boiler Room Set. Performing a bashment mix with UK reggae star Serocee, an artist Toddla collaborated with at V Fest in 2009, it is clear that the two have a good relationship which showed with the way they interacted throughout the mix. Serocee introduced himself in the first few minutes by freestyling to some trap instrumentals before Toddla T introduced some classic bashment songs, mixed with some of his own remixes. One of the best moments of the set's early stages was when he introduced his own remix of 'Gimme The Light' which prompted Toddla to reload the track. Another memorable moment was when Serocee rapped to the DJ's own remix of Big Bad Wolf by Duck Sauce. Despite the place having a rather subdued atmosphere early on, I found the gig to be highly entertaining as it succeeded in regularly getting my head bopping throughout the set. But just a quick note for Toddla T – you may want to brush up on those dance moves, they were quite cringeworthy.
