Altered Images—one of the most influential bands to emerge from the UK post-punk and new wave scenes—are delighted to announce a special UK tour celebrating their seminal 1981 album Happy Birthday, performed in full by the band’s original singer Clare Grogan. The tour will shine a spotlight on the album that launched their career while showcasing a full collection of the band’s greatest hits.
Altered Images became one of the early ’80s defining acts, scoring a string of chart successes including “Don’t Talk to Me About Love,” “I Could Be Happy,” “Happy Birthday,” “See Those Eyes,” “Pinky Blue,” and “Bring Me Closer.” Following her breakthrough with Altered Images, Grogan became a familiar face on screen, most notably starring in the cult-classic film Gregory’s Girl and later taking on roles across television drama and comedy. As an author she has written several successful children’s books.
Clare Grogan says: “It means the world to celebrate these songs with the people who grew up with them—and with those discovering them for the first time. The music of Altered Images has taken me on an incredible journey, and revisiting Happy Birthday along with all our hits feels like the perfect way to honour where we’ve been and where we’re going next.”
With a setlist that spans shimmering pop anthems, post punk classics, fan favourites, and timeless singles, each show promises a vibrant celebration of the band’s lasting impact and the unique voice Clare Grogan continues to bring to British music.

Don’t be fooled by this absolutely terrible band name “Altered Images”, the Glaswegian post punk band mean well with their new wave sound that smashed its way into the charts in the early 80’s. Tonight is all about the singles that they released over the course of about three years at the height of their career. “Pinky Blue” is the opener from this band, getting the audience going with their mid tempo post punk music. This particular song made it right into the top 40, and still has a great effect on audiences. “I Could Be Happy” is the chart topping song making it to number 7, that every single word is sang along to by patrons in this room. It’s not until they perform their biggest track “Happy Birthday” which of course made it to number 2 in the UK and number 3 in Ireland, that the building implodes from the inside out in excitement. It truly is a wonderful moment. Would’ve been better if they had Altered their band name too.
