J-pop (Japanese Pop music) is completely beyond me. It is a world filled with unrealistic, slightly cartoonish girls who play into the stereotype of Japanese teen culture. That being said, I do have to admit that some of the songs are catchy (despite my not knowing what the songs are actually about), especially when it comes from Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (real name Kiriko Takemura). The very young artist plays into the stereotype, but at least has the talent to back it all up.
Watching a live J-pop show is unlike watching anything else. The staging is completely elaborate and so colorful you feel like a rainbow crash landed onto the stage. The fans are dressed just as wild as the stage is, but it does the job of completely taking you into the fantasy that the show is trying to set up. As I’ve said, I don’t understand most of what’s being sung, save for the occasional English word (which is thrown in for reasons completely unknown). The almost child-like persona that she puts on somehow makes you forget about how possibly ridiculous the show may seem, and you find yourself becoming just as into the show as everyone else. If nothing else, check out her shows to see how much of an experience for all your senses the show is.
I saw KPP when she was in Chicago in 2013. I had so much fun! She spoke in Japanese except for maybe a couple phrases ("This is my first time in Chicago!") without an interpretor. I didn't mind this- I thought it was really cool actually! The whole audience reacted to her words even though most didn't understand. Her backup dancers KILLED IT and were so awesome and fun to watch. She had several costume changes and always wore iconic ones from her music videos.
The fun thing about Kyary is that she reminds us that music doesn't have to be "deep" or have great lyrics. In her case, we are more than happy to see her just to experience the way the music sounds and the way the stage looks.
It doesn't look like she's coming back to Chicago on her current tour. That's a shame, because I would gladly pay to see her again.
Kyary pamyu pamyu is one of the most popular Japan artist in the world. As icon of the new generation and of the new Japanese pop culture kyary is schowing to the world the new trends and movements of her society. The show was great even if short, all the people start to get involved with her music and after some minutes Everybody was dancing!
It was a great experience and hope to see her again. Here the link to my interview with kyary:

It was an amazing night, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has so much energy and she's super adorable. Her concert was definitely worth it, she's so cute and she interacts with the audience, the language barrier doesn't stop her. I will definitely go to her concert again when she comes back.
She really knows how to put on a show!
Saw her at KOKO in London and it was a really awesome experience. The setlist was really good and I really felt like the concert delivered on her usual crazy style and antics, overall a really good show!
This is the 3rd time I have been to see her and it was fantastic! An amazing performer as always and although the venue didn't have any seats, there were plenty of places to perch and enjoy the show! Can't wait til she gets back next year!
