First formed in 1998, and despite having a continually changing lineup, has consistently had Jesse Hughes and Josh Homme in the band. Due to the Homme’s other band, Queens of the Stone Age, who had gained global massive success; however during an interview, Homme assured fans that he was as much a part of Eagles of Death Metal as he was Queens Of The Stone Age. Several other members have included Dave Grohl (frontman for The Foo Fighters), Jack Black, and Brody Dalle (of The Distillers).
Eagles of Death Metal finally released their debut album in March 2004 entitled “Peace, Love, and Death Metal.” Several songs were used in American television commercials for various companies such as ask.com and Budweiser, and was also used in films, such as Grindhouse. They followed up with the release of “Death By Sexy” in 2006, and then set out on tour with The Strokes as well as a headlining tour themselves. In 2008 the band again released another album entitled “Heart On,” and performed on a live webcast for Fuel.tv as part of their Heart On tour. Just as Homme had Queens of the Stone Age to work on in between Eagles of Death Metal, Hughes was also working on a solo project, releasing a debut album in 2011. In late 2013 Hughes made an announcement via social media that the band was working on new material.
My personal philosophy on music is if Josh Homme has a part in it, then it's going to be good music. Unfortunately, the Eagles of Death Metal never really caught on to mainstream success, as their three albums didn't catch on but it is still excellent music and rocks harder than ever when performed live.
The members of the band have basically moved on to bigger projects, but when these guys get together they still rock out harder than ever. They bring a sort of energy to live shows that seems to be somewhat lost these days, as a lot of bands just show up and play their greatest hits and sound like their album. The Eagles of Death Metal bring that vibrant exuberance that when you hear the first strum of a guitar, you know you showed up to the right place and are in for a great show.
Everyone always has a good time at the show, and they play a good mix of songs from all of their albums, but the place goes absolutely nuts when they bust out "Speaking in Tongues" or "Wanna Be in L.A." With Josh and Jesse excelling all over the guitars, vocals, and drums, it's always a treat to watch and a guaranteed good time.
