My first gig at Concorde 2 in Brighton, and Tanya's first tour since 2004, which incidentally I saw her on. Although I own every album she's ever made, I didn't recognise the first few songs but when she launched into the sublime 'Swoon' it was as if she'd never been away. She then proceeded to play a couple of Belly tracks, Low Red Moon & Dusted, along with the Throwing Muses penned 'Honeychain.'
Her band is excellent and consists of her husband, Dean Fisher, on acoustic guitar and two other exceptional musicians on another electric guitar and upward bass. Curiously, at various points I could hear percussion of some sort, even though there was no drummer. A Mystery of the Unexplained maybe? This was only a short set and effectively a support slot to the Throwing Muses, which Tanya would come back out to temporarily join, however, she absolutely brought the house down when she ended with 'Slow Dog' and 'Not too Soon' demonstrating her incrediblely powerful voice and on stage presence. I loved every nostalgic minute and hope she'll be coming out of retirement to tour again in the future as she really is a special and rare talent.
