Robert Miles became an overnight sensation with his club hit “Children” and he practically established a whole new genre with his album “Dreamland”. His sound is the type you would expect to hear at a rave, but it does not entail the overdriven freneticism heard in most other dance tracks. His music has a steady but hard driving pulse, but on the surface it is very serene and harmonious. Miles combines soft trance like sounds with house music to wondrous effect.
His live concerts (like most of the shows of DJs and producers) caters to the dance oriented vibe of discos and clubs. The goal of his shows seems to be aimed at getting people up and dancing. It goes without saying that he is usually successful in doing so. Robert Miles is not only great at instigating the crowd into action, he can also put on a hell of a visual show.
During his top of the pop performance he played on a Liberace style grand piano amongst a suite of string musicians who dressed in tuxedos and wearing dark sunglasses. The overall appearance was modern, formal and perfectly matched the slick nature of his sound. The bass was pumping in synchronization to the flashing lights and the fans could not refrain themselves from screaming and dancing the whole night.
Robert Miles also had a chance to show off his chops on the piano when he performed the song “One & One”. During this song he had guest vocalist Maria Nayler sing the lyrics. To add to the excitement he had staged artists dressed in white Japanese clothing dance along to the music. The lights as usual were mesmerizing and the cool green and blue colors nicely complemented the relaxed performance of the song.
