Stone’s career - which dates all the way back to 1979 - marks her out as one of the most successful R&B artists of her generation. She’s been nominated for three Grammy Awards, topped the R&B charts numerous times, and sold in excess of five million records worldwide. She spent time in the rap group The Sequence in the eighties, before going on to be part of the R&B trio Vertical Hold and making a record with Lenny Kravitz’s cousin, Gerry DeVeaux, under the name Devox. She’s also well-known for having collaborated with R&B superstar, contributing to both of his studio records to date and providing backing vocals for him on tour. Stone has a son, Michael, with D’Angelo, with whom she was romantically involved in the nineties.
It wasn’t until the latter part of that decade, though, that Stone’s career took off in its own right. Her first two albums, ‘Black Diamond’ and ‘Mahogany Soul’, both went gold after release in 1999 and 2001 respectively, and she went on to sign for the legendary label Stax Records in the mid-noughties. She’s worked with artists as diffuse as Clive Davis and Idris Elba, and continues to tour and record today, despite numerous health issues.

There’s been plenty of musicians, down the years, who’ve ultimately played second fiddle in terms of public prominence to their musical spouses, and just because Angie Stone is one of them doesn’t mean that she has nothing of her own to offer. Granted, she never actually married D’Angelo - they do have one child together - but she was already highly successful in her own right before she was ever involved with the king of neo soul, and it’s also worth pointing out that it was a professional, as well as personal, relationship; she didn’t just sing backing vocals for him onstage, she contributed significantly to the writing of both Brown Sugar and Voodoo. In terms of her own solo career, she’s sold in excess of five million records across the world and been nominated for five Grammys; in addition, she continues to tour her own material frequently. Her most recent jaunt in the UK, in fact, came as recently as this April past, when she played packed club venues across the country with a full live band, playing tracks from across her illustrious career as well as a handful of choice covers. Vocally, she’s probably getting better with age; the rapturous reception with which British crowds greeted her confirms that her true fans understand her worth beyond D’Angelo - and surely appreciate that her work ethic is nothing like his, too.
Neo-soul singer/songwriter and actress Angie Stone is a critically acclaimed and global selling artist so the demand to see her 25 years into her long career is still large. She is the epitome of a glamorous artist and this level of sophistication and star quality feeds directly into her performance style. She may now be in her 50s but her vocal range and quality has retained all these years later.
There is a wonderful and authentic nature to her jazz and soul and it feels as though she truly believes in everything she has ever written and recorded. Joined onstage by a wonderful selection of instrumentals including a rich string section to add luxurious textures to the likes of 'I Wanna Thank Ya'. The crowd award her with huge applause thanks to Angie's warm interaction and constant gratitude throughout the evening. It is a wonderful performance of truly soulful jazz and R & B led by an icon of the genre. For those who may not be aware of Angie's great discography and unique vocal tones, you must get tickets to see her perform as this is where she truly shines.
Angie stone the goddess, amazing show, even though she had hurt her ankle, it didn’t even make the slightest difference, absolutely amazing. I will be seeing her again whenever we are blessed with her visit to the shores of the UK. You could tell she wanted to dance, her stool she was sitting on did the dance for her. She sang all her hits plus some of her new tracks. Her voice is unbelievable. She is a real entertainer. 10/10
Fantastic show! Angie came out after a significant delay (not on her part) and brought the house down.
It's was like church, your auntie's house, and a summer picnic rolled into one! The band and the singers were all on point! King, the opening act, was fantastic!
I sure wish we had gotten to spend more time with her. Sacramentos curfew spoiled the joy, but Angie Sang all the way of the stage.
Quality of the concert was great.
But found it a little short.
And even no encore after the show.
That was a bit disappointing.
She just left, and the lights were turned on immediately. So must have been something that was agreed before the show.
I Love Angie Stone & Will Always Be A Fan Of Hers. I Can't Wait To See Her Again. I Hope She's Coming To The Carolinas Real Soon Again. Thanks For A Awesome Performance...
