Born on April 14 1932 it was her marriage to Oliver “Doolittle” Lynn at the age of 16 that inspired her music the most. She began singing in local clubs in 1959, later forming her own band called Trailblazers. Zero Records arranged a recoding session of four of her compositions and in 1960 she signed a contract with Zero. After spending some time in the studio, Lynn then went out on tour to promote the release of her recorded tracks. Starting on the West Coast and making her way to Nashville, Tennessee, her songs had reached number one, allowing her to secure a contact with Decca Records with the help of Wilburn Brothers Publishing Company.
On 25 September 1962 she joined the Grand Ole Opry and also released her first Decca single “Success.” From then on her singles continued to be successful and find spots on the top charts. By 1967 she reached No. 1 with “Don’t Come Home A’ Drinkin’ (With Love On Your Mind), followed a year later with “Fist City.” In 1973 her album “Rated X” peaked at Number One on the Billboard Charts. By the early 1980s Lynn became the first American female recording artist to chart over fifty top ten hits. In 1971 Lynn teamed up with Conway Twitty and together they shared five consecutive Number 1 hits and later became one of the most successful duos of country history. Meanwhile Lynn continued to pursue her solo career; in fact, by 1988 she was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
After a hiatus, Lynn returned to the public eye in 1993 with a trio album “Honky Tonk Angels,” which she recorded with Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette. The album sold over 800,000 copies, reached certified gold, and was nominated for both a Grammy and Country Music Award. In 1995 she was awarded with the Pioneer Award at the 30th Academy of Country Music Awards.

There’s not many people who can claim to be genuine icons both of their genre and amongst their home country’s music scene, but Loretta Lynn is certainly one of them. Still going strong at the grand old age of eighty-two, Lynn has been described as both the Queen and the First Lady of country music, and with good reason; over the course of a career that has now lasted for more than five decades, she’s released no fewer than an astonishing fifty-four studio albums - that’s almost one for every year of her career! It’s a phenomenal rate of return that’s seen her rack up countless hit singles, collaborate to huge success - most notably with Conway Twitty - and play what must by now be many thousand of live shows, both solo and with her band. Whilst she hasn’t released a new record now since 2004, and hasn’t toured properly in longer than that, at this point, there’s no question of her influence on American culture in general; just last year, President Barack Obama announced that she would be awarded with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in honour of her contribution to music. Does it really get any more prestigious than that?
Great show! The opening act "The Sneed Family" wasn't much to be desired and lasted about 45 minutes. Loretta Lynn's kids sang a few songs also before the "First Lady of Country Music" made her apperance. She still sounded great, just like she did 50 plus years ago. She sung the first two songs standing up and finished the show sitting down, but at 83, nobody minded at all. She talked about Conway Twitty and Patsy Cline and you could tell she really admired and missed them. Our $100 tickets was worth every penny to see and hear this country legend icon live. I can't wait to catch another concert from this down to Earth woman!
I've never been to one of her concerts, she was my moms favorite artist. My mother even named me after her... I absolutely love lorrettalynn!!! I'm praying that I will be able to go to one of her concerts and maybe even get to meet her...
Stunning as always. Charming and down-to-earth, as always. Voice remarkable, as always. What more can you say about a living legend who still gets out there and gives her all to her fans!
