Sick Puppies rock hard. Their leading lady is not a damsel in distress but a harsh taskmistress to her instrument (the bass). While lead singer Shim croons their angry or determined sets, she throws herself into music abandon in a manner reminiscent of 1980's power rock bands.
The true joy of the concerts is when she is given a solo and she owns the music as if she were made for it. “Riptide” is a particularly intense song but pales in comparison to “You're Going Down.” If Shim crooned and Emma rocked before hand, now he gruffly belts out the aggressive tunes while she tests the limits of her bass.
The passion that the band displays for their music is evident in their dedication. Finally with his eyes closed Shim proves that Sick Puppies has more than one side. He croons the affirming lyrics to “All the Same” as Emma and Mark play more sedately but allow their bodies to be lost to the passion of the music. Their dedication to the song playfully nicknamed “The Free Hugs Song” for its campaign associations showcases a previously unseen level of passion from the band. While more subdued the bass and guitar solos for this song still rock in every sense of the word. Displaying more control and finesse the instruments wail the tune while harmonizing with all three members making this a song to remember.
Sick Puppies have been one of my favortie bands since I was about 15. My world was the attention grabber and going to see them in concert made me fall inlove all over again. Not only do they have a hardcore bass play (Emmma the goddess) but Shim delivers great vocals and actually engages the crowd through the set. Shim performed his heart out and by the time the set was done. I was in awe and also lost my voice. They know how to deliver and know how to keep you coming back for more. They performed some old and some new songs which is always great and I felt as though they knew the perfect order for songs. I would definately reccomned them to be seen live!
The show was stunning! High energy and very interactive with the crowd! No one rocks the bass like Emma, that's a fact everyone knows! Mark kicked ass on his beautiful DW kit! Bryan rocked the hell out of old and new songs! This was a party not a show, a very high quality party, the band was out to have fun and it showed! This show exceeded my expectations! Bonus was the small venue where meeting the band topped off the night! Also would like to add, their shirts are top notch quality, not the stiff concert shirts that too often are the case, Sick Puppies know how to treat their fans!!!! I need to see them again ASAP!
I absolutely loved the show last night. Not only were the Sick Puppies amazing, but the bands that opened for them were also great. I loved how interactive they were with the crowd. Telling us to jump and yell and even take the shoulders of the people around us and sway. The show was amazing, the music was amazing, and I had an amazing time. I'd definitely see them again if the opportunity were to arise and I would suggest seeing them live to anyone with a similar taste in music to myself.
This was my first time seeing Sick Puppies and the first time seeing them in the Ballroom at the Taft Theater. The band (as expected) and the venue were both amazing! I can't wait to see Sick Puppies again! Devour the Day opened and they were equally phenomenal!
I love both bands! Will definitely purchase tickets to see them again!
It was wonderful, an amazing concert, my friends and i, we have an excellent night.... we can't wait to see them again ... and the place was good too. ... it was cool to expend the night at a good place, good music and my friends
Amazing!!! They opened for Skillet, but to me Sick Puppies stole the show. The band was totally on point and the songs were better live than on CD! I can't wait to see these guys again.
They were great! Interactive with the crowd and great sound!! Emma really kills on the bass! I would definitely recommend seeing them if they come to your area. Awesome band!
It was AWESOME I hope they come back and this time they should headline the show cuz there alot better than the other bands. I love Emma and Sick Puppies
