One phrase to describe this show: Mind bending.
My friend and I got to Double Happiness Bar in Columbus, Ohio right around when the doors opened at 9:00pm. There were probably around 5-7 other people there waiting to see milo in the flesh. The stage was extremely small and personable and the only lighting came from the giant Double Happiness logo in the window behind the stage. I thought this added a sense of mystery and somewhat chaotic / thrown together feel to the venue, which I liked very much. As it became closer to showtime more people showed up with a total of 20-25 people coming. The openers all did there thing we stand-out performances from iSoljah, Illogic, and Safari Al. All artists that are extremely worthy of your listen, and I advise you do so.
As Safari Al (the last opener and part of milo's label ruby yacht) is creating one weird ass fucking beat loop, milo and the third and final member of ruby yacht (you can probably guess who that is) show up right to the stage and start messing with all of their equipment. While this is going on S. Al is still going OFF on this beat. Adding noise and sounds I didn't think existed. Eventually S. Al goes off stage and 2/3 of ruby yacht are still fiddling with their equipment and trying to get their sound just right. It was so worth it.
The beat starts and milo starts rapping rabblerouse, the first song off his 2nd full length project "so the files don't come". The crowd is vibing hard and everyone is having a good time. milo's partner in crime is next to him with a mic with some heavy distortion added onto the production. Throughout every song he would add random vocals that echoed throughout the whole building and noises that fit perfectly with the beats and milo's spoken word type rap flow. At the end of the show, I head over to the merch table where milo is. I get myself a ruby yacht T-shirt and a copy of "so the files don't come" on cassette. I also ask if I can get a picture with him really quick and he's totally cool about it and says yes.
All in all this show was very intimate and enjoyable from start to finish. If you're of fan of Open Mike Eagle, Busdriver, ect. I can not recommend enough to treat yourself and go see milo live.
Rating: 10/10
This was a great show, it started off with a somewhat uninspiring set by wolf langis. It was low energy spacey off kilter beats with no defining characteristics. Then there was Gestures who were really good. The lead singer had a great howling intense voice and the instrumentals were crunchy and loud, a lot of distortion and overall the antithesis of wolf langis; bristling with energy and unique. Then there was Jel who was very technically skilled and was great at finger drumming, his beats were goood but not incredible and he displayed some rapping which was not bad at all. His beats did get a bit repetitive tho past a certain point. After that SB the Moor came on. He was not a feature on Yet Another but rather put on his own solo set. I am not super keen on recognizing bad playing but the people around me seemed to be giggling at his guitar playing, which did strike me as simplistic and undeniably out of tune, but that did not hinder him as he still delivered a spirited and unique performance of gravelly half-bellowed and screamed songs. He was also very charming in his acknowledgement of his out of tune guitar and of his slip ups. After this Kenny Segal, producer who has worked with Milo, put on his own set which was very cool. He utilized a lot of odd devices which I cannot name, one of which appeared to be some kind of casette sampler device (maybe) which gave his beats a nice texture. Then the man himself Milo appeared. He was super funny with his nonsequitor tangents and weird existential interjections. He was interacting with the crowd in a funny offbeat fashion. His set was great, his vocals were crisp and his lyrics completely intelligible unlike some hip hop shows in which the rapper sounds muddy. He played great songs from his scallops hotel project, even a bit of red wall, and then of course a handful of songs off so the flies don't come and who told you to think. I would highly reccomend seeing Milo perform as he is a great rapper, wordsmith, performer, stage presence, just all around a great set. I would also very much reccomend Kenny segal, SB the Moor, and Gestures, who were the surprise favorite discovery of mine that night.
openers were low profile and generally much less technical than Milo. I did not enjoy that part much
Milo waited a long time to come on stage (as he was manning the merch table by himself) but, once he got up there, he rapped one dense, heady verse after another in typical Milo fashion. he talked a little between his songs, with his predictably tongue-in-cheek attitude -- at one point remarking that he had snobby taste and was "on that niche shit", like rap songs about doing chores, before jumping into a song about doing laundry and humming in the kitchen near his young son. he teased about his "manifesto" and how it riled him up to the point where he wanted to light a cop car on fire; he never recited any piece of it -- at least, not any that he informed the audience about -- but, later, he cryptically gave out a phone number that he donned the "Manifesto Hotline". he didn't say it more than once.
don't come expecting to hear any songs from So the Flies Don't Come or Who Told You To Think??! -- chances are that he will play songs you have never heard before (except for "Respectdue")

Denmark Vessey, Elucid, and Milo all killed it. Great sound and performance by his DJ before the performance. The live sampling on stage was really dope. Milo performed most of the songs off "So the Flies Don't Come," which is my favorite project from him. His delivery of the bars almost perfectly matched the recording. Overall, a really good concert in terms of the performances. Though the crowd was a little weird and hipstery, but that was expected
