Having purchased 4 tickets with great excitement months ago, the anticipated gig in my home city was super special and one that my friends had been taking about for weeks. I have seen Danielle and her wonderful guys perform many times at festivals and couldn't wait to see them at the iconic Concorde 2 in Brighton. A venue that is renowned for its sound system and live performances, we arrived at 9.50 to catch them coming on stage soon. As we pulled up in our cab, many people were leaving, to discover the gig had already finished! For some very bizarre reason, they had come on stage at 8.30 and were done by 10. To say I and my friends were disappointed is an understatement. Why was this not explained when purchasing the tickets, there was no information that they would be on early, thinking there would be a warm up act on before. I really love their music and very much look forward to seeing them again in Croatia in July, but the organisers of the event must ensure that the customers know to arrive early if they are performing when the doors open.. very odd! I will be pushing this with DHP and find out what went on. Im sure Im not the only one to have missed out!
When Chris Todd and Jim Baron originally formed Crazy P, I don't think they imagined it to have the longevity or following that it now commands. The Nottingham musicians are now considered experts in downtempo disco and evocative live performance with almost two decades worth of experience on the circuit. The University alumni have released several albums over their time together yet due to the obscure nature of their music, the charts have never kind yet this does not stop the fans.
As the lights dim and the deep bass notes begin to permeate the venue's floor and up into the legs of the gathered masses, the crowds begin to excitedly cheer and applaud as the atmosphere turns to pure electricity. Danielle Moore lurches out to the front of the stage in a revealing costume and greets the room as one in a delectably cool mentality. The percussion begins to beat and it is signal for the group to come together and run through their setlist of 'Open For Service' 'Sonar' and 'Future Beat'. With a large amount of material focused around space and future, the visuals are suitably engaging before it all culminates in an enthralling version of 'Sun Science'.
The combination of disco with down tempo and deep house I refreshing, and something that still hasn’t been replicated since Crazy P began their career back in the mid 90s. Although their popularity has fluctuated over the years, I’ve been a fan of the band since their older releases, and have enjoyed the evolution of their music.
They opened the show with the track There’s a Better Place, which samples the song from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Pure Imagination. They went for an eire sound to open the show, but built the atmosphere up to enthusiasm as they got the audience singing along with them. They then introduced themselves and took their places behind their respective instruments, with Danielle Moor taking centre stage behind the microphone.
They played through the majority of When We On which was awesome to hear live, and they also revisited some of their older material, including the 2008 track Stop Space Return, which was released by iTunes then as single of the week. The music is strong as ever, and the band still perform effortlessly and flawlessly. It was a great show.
You guys were so wrong about a show being in Chicago.
I went to the venue and the place did NOT know anything about a Crazy P show.
When I went to Crazy P Facebook page they were playing a set called “Disco Night” in Manchester England -NOT a set at Disco club in Chicago.
There were other customers there that had been misinformed and were upset.
This is the first time I used your site to go to a show and you guys got it all wrong!
Great night. Top band.
Venue needs to sort it quite dreadful bar & cloakroom out.
If the bar worked properly, the cloakroom boy wouldn't need to be selling cans and taking coats.
Spectacular! What a show. Crazy P were incredible, with great light show too. New sound system in Islington Assembly Hall is really high quality and the staff were great too.
