Shortly after reforming in 2009 Skunk Anansie, played the 2010 V Festival. During the 1990s the group had been at the forefront of the Britrock movement. In November 2009 they had released new singles, including 'Because of You' and Tear the Place Up' alongside their greatest hits. The following summer, Skunk Anansie returned to mainstream festival stage to showcase this collection.
The rock band opened with their new release, 'Because of You', which gave centre stage to Skin’s powerful, wailing vocals. The audience gave a tentative reception to the new single, but seemed fairly willing to give it chance.
By the time Skunk Anansie brought out their old hits, the crowd were thoroughly involved, not least because they had little choice. During 'Weak' Skin entered the sea of fans, being held up by willing participants throughout the song, and collapsing into the mass of people at the track’s end. Skin’s performance as front woman was not the only notable part of the act. I remember commenting to my companions in admiration of Cass’s bass playing during 'Hedonism'. We concluded that he was one cool guy.
Skunk Anansie demonstrated that they still know how to work the big stage, so are well worth a look, especially as they have since released two new albums, 'Wonderluste' and 'Black Traffic'.
Fantastic concert with supporting band, The Pearl Harts, doing a great job of warming up the crowd.
Debbie had the most amazing energy and performed a mix of older classics, newer edgier pieces and even 1 brand new song.
The graphics and lighting display was amazing. The sound was good, much better then a concert we went to a couple of years ago, when it was just far far to loud to actually enjoy it. This time, the balance was spot on and her voice resonated around the theatre.
Well done!
What a performance from lead skinner Skin, going into the crowd numerous times, interacting. one of the best gigs I have ever seen at the O2 Glasgow. Whole crowd was into the band's performance and the appluase the audience gave skunk anasie received at the end of the night was above the norm, we got a great, amazing gig and those who experienced it let the band know at the end. Highly recommend seeing them.
21 years after I first saw them (this was my 5th seeing them), they are still just as good as they ever were (if not better). To top it off, I managed to get into a mosh pit with Skin at the end of the gig! Once the show was over, I looked into the joyous sweaty faces of the strangers around me and felt an instant connection (even sharing unashamed sweaty hugs with a few of them!). It was magic!
The incredible power house that is Skins did not disappoint. The queen of punk rock delivered in every single way; voice, attitude, costume, energy and crowd interaction. She was accompanied by the slick tunes and energy from the seamless band that make Skunk Anansie the passionate band that have stood the test of time! I would go again in a heartbeat.
Great show ! Skin still has her perfect voice after 23 years! She was in interaction with the audience, made us sat and came in the crowd to sing close to us and even sip someone's beer!
We had the chance to enjoy two "encore", one with 4 songs and a final "I know one hundred ways to be a good girl".
I felt like 16 again!
Sadly the Madrid concert at the Riviera on 8 nov 2020 has been cancelled. I received confirmation of the cancellation directly from the venue. I think songkick should not encourage the sale of any more tickets through See Tickets. I'm sure it must be illegal to continue selling when you know the concert has been cancelled.
This is what music is about. There was so much love in that room! Skin was tareing around engaging with what felt like everyone! The band were laughing and joking with each other. You could feel that they were all up there having fun. Currently trying to get tickets to another show on their tour.
Quite simply, AMAZING!!! The performance from the whole band was brilliant and Skin has quite possibly the best singing voices I have ever heard live. Never had the chance in the 90's to see them and I am so pleased that I finally have.
